About the position & key responsibilities
As Data Platform Engineer you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust data platform to uniformly collect and manage data from our energy assets (solar, wind, storage, EV charging). This role is critical to ensuring that data can be easily accessed and utilized by various departments, including Optimization, Accounting and Operations & Maintenance (O&M). Additionally, the role involves performing data analysis for reporting and decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering and a passion for building scalable data solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Platform Development:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Accounting, O&M, and Research, to understand their data needs and ensure the platform supports their requirements.
- Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive data platform to collect and manage data from various sources, including plant controllers, metering systems and external databases (eg. market data).
- Ensure the data platform is scalable, reliable, and secure, adhering to industry best practices and compliance requirements.
- Ensure the data platform is developed following software engineering best practices (CI/CD, testing, …).
- Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure data quality and consistency. Implement data validation and error-checking mechanisms to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other departments on how to access and use the data platform.
- Create comprehensive documentation for the data platform, including architecture, data flow.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Assist in analysing data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can inform business decisions.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to present data in a clear and actionable manner.
- Support various departments in their data analysis and reporting needs, ensuring they have the necessary tools and data access.
Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role, preferably within the energy sector.
- Proficiency in data integration tools and technologies (e.g., SQL, Python, ETL tools).
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Experience with software engineering (CI/CD, testing, …)
- Strong understanding of database systems, both SQL and NoSQL.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) and reporting frameworks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
